Mushabellies Augmented Reality3D Video Game
Company Profile:
The Mushabellies are brought to you by the good folks at Jay@Play, is a company established in 2004 based in Hong Kong with offices and a show room in New York City. Jay@Play. In addition to Mushabellies, J@P is known of other great toys such as Happy Nappers, Totally KooKoo and now Little Ms. Muffin dolls.
Jay@Play is a proud participant in the Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale. This is a cool initiative that encourages Americans to hold bake sales in their own towns with the proceeds going to the No Kid Hungry program.
Christmas in my world is a time of extreme baking and cooking. Why not hold a bake sale for the holidays with proceeds going one of several great “No Kid Hungry” programs.
What Is The Mushabellies Augmented Reality Game
The Mushabellies combines the best of three worlds, a collectible doll, a plush doll and a 3D video game all wrapped into on entertainment system. A Mushabelly simply is an Apple App driven (don’t worry Android users, your time is coming) toy that interacts with either an iPad or iPhone to create a unique game experience.
Here’s how it works:
- Grab your passport cards (included)
- Place the cards on the table, bed or other flat surface
- Aim your iPad or iPhone at your cards (the character will come to life on your device)
- Tap your character and do what it takes to score points which is to collect treats
Simple huh?
Things You Would Like About Mushabellies Augmented Reality Game
You’re probably going to dig how easy it is to play the game. Based on my fooling around with the game, I figured it out in a couple of minutes.
I allowed an 8-year-old to borrow my iPhone (after hearing “are you sure there’s nothing on that phone of yours”) to play, like most kids of his generation, he picked it up in minutes.
The Mushabelly itself retails around $12.00 each as of this writing and comes with:
- Free Downloadable App from Apple I-Store
- Free 3D Game Folder
- 3 AR Tracker Cards
The cost is reasonable, it’s the accessories that will cost you a little.
Things I Didn’t Like About Mushabellies
If you’ve checked out some of my other reviews such as The Top 3 Toy Guns Christmas 2012, you’ll notice I’m a huge, huge proponent of physical play and toys that encourage getting up and running around.
Don’t get me wrong, the Mushabellies is an awesome toy, but in the end it’s another version of a video game that encourages sitting around playing in a virtual world with little to no education value in my humble opinion.
The fact that this toy requires added costs in the form of an iPad or iPhone also is something I really didn’t like about the toy.
Who Would Like This Toy
The recommended age of this toy is 3 to 8 years old, anyone older will probably get bored
pretty fast.
